Student Profiles | Support & Giving | Partnering
Almost anyone can host a foreign exchange student! A traditional family with teens typically
works best, but you can be a young married couple (at least 25 years of age), a single mom or
dad, empty nesters, retired folks. A love for teenagers is also a must.
Hosting is strictly volunteer - a heart endeavor. As a host family you provide your student with room and board
(a bed and a quiet place to study is the general expectation. A room can be shared with a
host sibling that is no more than four years younger than the int'l student). You are asked
to make the student a part of your family, and that you feed your students breakfast and dinner.
Students pay for lunch at school. They come with their own medical and dental insurance and their
own spending money. The IRS provides a deduction that can be taken under charitable giving for
those that host. Program support is provided though HfYI through supervision of the students and
regular contact with host families. We also have regular gatherings and outings for the students
while they are here.
